In Nursery we pride ourselves on offering a fun, stimulating and caring environment.
We encourage and promote active learning through all seven areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum: Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development, Communication and Language, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts.
At Lady Katherine Leveson C of E Primary School, we do not make a distinction between work and play. Children learn through planned play activities and staff will decide when child-initiated or adult-led play activities would provide the most effective learning opportunities. We provide stimulating and challenging learning activities that promote independence. Each child’s knowledge, skills and enjoyment in all areas of the curriculum are developed whilst building on prior learning.
During the first term at Nursery the children will be settling in and getting to know each other and the key adults. Our first topic is All About Me and this provides lots of opportunities for the children to talk about themselves and learn about each other.
Through our Once Upon a Time topic children learn a variety of traditional tales and these stories will be used to enhance all areas of learning. As spring approaches we will learn about seasonal changes and we will spend time exploring our school grounds, searching for signs of change.
During our Magic in the Garden topic children will explore our wonderful outdoor location as they learn about plant growth and mini beasts. In addition our Under the Sea topic provides children with plentiful fun, exploratory activities both indoors and out.
