Year 4

Year Four

In Year 4 we strive to become more independent learners and to engage in a rich and inspiring curriculum that brings out the strengths of each individual. In our small class we welcome a wide range of personalities and tailor our learning to suit the needs and abilities of all enabling them to reach for the stars!

We are very focused on achieving our goals and dreams with active lessons and opportunities that develop our whole school community feel.

Throughout the year we tackle the battles of the Roman soldiers before delving into an exploration of the Rainforest finishing off in the depths of Greek history and the myths of Medusa!

Year Four Curriculum

Autumn Term:  During our first term of Year 4 we focus on the Romans whilst exploring the fables written by Aesop and cementing our knowledge and fluency in formal methods for Addition and Subtraction.

We also host the Christmas Nativity and develop our understanding and expression of the true meaning of Christmas.

Spring Term: Throughout the Spring Term our theme is The Rainforest and to support this we visit Birmingham Botanical Gardens to delve into their recreation of the plants and climate.

We also move our English focus to Poetry and exploring the complex narrative of ‘The Eye of the Wolf’, whilst our Maths is focused on a deep rooted understanding of our Multiplication and Division skills.

Summer Term: During Summer term we explore the history of Greece and its memorable mythology. Our English focus builds on this as we carry out a study of Myths and work on creating our own to be displayed in our class book. We then look at Historical Fiction and develop our ability to understand characters and plots within stories.  Our maths focus moves onto understanding decimals and time and applying this to real life concepts.
